Street Dance Classes in SwanseaAdults only, beginners first, no clips required.

Street dance in this city mostly arrives attached to a children’s school, with an adult slot bolted on at the end of an evening. This is the other way round — an adults’ room, built for people who have never taken a class and have no intention of being the oldest person among a group of fourteen-year-olds. It runs off a list: join free, and when there are enough names we hire a hard-floored room, book a teacher and email the start date out. £10 a session or £32 for four weeks once it is going.

The street dance list

Six boxes, then we go find a floor.

It costs nothing and holds you to nothing. Postcode is the practical part — it decides whether the hired room lands nearer town or nearer the bay — and the start date reaches this list before it goes anywhere public.

hard floors, never carpet, which narrows the venue list a lot ✦

Street dance interest list

Adult street dance, from scratch? Six boxes gets you in the queue.

Sending this means joining the interest list for this class — we’ll email you when it has a start date and a place for you.

Why street dance

Nothing to pretend, plenty to learn.

Street asks you to be nobody but yourself, which is rarer in dance than it sounds. There is no era to inhabit, no character to sell and no partner to apologise to. What remains is timing and weight — landing on a beat rather than near it, holding a shape still enough that it registers — and both are learnable things, drilled slowly, that keep improving for years afterwards. Adults tend to get there quicker than they expect, because the hard part is nerve and adults have more of that than they give themselves credit for.

→

Adults only, deliberately. Nobody in the room is auditioning, and nobody is the odd one out among a row of teenagers.

→

Nothing is handed out. Trainers and whatever you would wear to move in; we do not stock, sell or lend a single thing.

→

The floor genuinely matters. Wood or sprung beats a rug by a distance, which is why we hire a room instead of improvising one.

How the hour tends to build.

once live — the teacher writes the material
one

Loosen up badly

Ten minutes of moving without caring how it looks, which does more for a beginner than any stretch ever will.

two

Four or five shapes

A small vocabulary drilled until it is automatic — a bounce, a lean, a step that travels, one arm shape.

three

Chain and repeat

Those shapes strung into a short sequence and run to a track until it stops being a list of instructions.

a shape, not a script — teachers bring their own material every time

Drop-in£10per session, once live

Fine to dip in and out; the basics get revisited constantly rather than assumed.

Four weeks£32consecutive, once live

Four weeks is where the bounce stops being something you have to think about.

Street dance & this city

Tidy floors, from town to the bay.

Swansea makes this easy in one specific way: it is compact. A room hired near the centre is walkable from the station, reachable from Uplands on a bus and a ten-minute drive from most of the bay, which matters enormously for a class people come to straight from work. The city also holds a surprising number of adults who spent their twenties watching this and never once tried it, because provision locally skews young and the demand simply sits there quietly. When somebody hits a count properly for the first time the room’s verdict tends to be a single Swansea word — tidy — and honestly that is review enough.

✕

Postcodes settle the venue. Wherever the names cluster is where the room gets hired, which is the honest reason the form asks.

✕

Straight from work is normal. Most of this list will turn up with a bag and change in a corridor; nobody dresses up for it.

Street dance, answered.

nine we are asked constantly ↓

Is this class actually for adults or teenagers?+

Adults. The form carries junior brackets because families use this site, but the class this list is building is an adults’ room and it will be advertised as one. A junior version, if it ever runs, would be an entirely separate list.

I have never taken a dance class. Will I cope?+

Yes, and you will be in the majority. A launch class starts from a standing position and assumes nothing at all, and the first twenty minutes are designed to be done badly by everybody simultaneously.

What kind of music would the class use?+

Whatever the teacher we book works best to — usually current hip-hop and R&B, sometimes older, occasionally something nobody saw coming. It gets named in the launch email so there are no surprises on arrival.

How much is a street dance session in Swansea?+

£10 on the door for a single session. £32 covers four consecutive weeks if you would rather commit to a month. Printed here rather than emailed on request, and the list stays free either way.

Do I need special trainers or clothing?+

Trainers you can pivot in and clothes that let you move — that is genuinely the whole requirement. Nothing gets handed out, sold or lent at the door, so wear what you already own and save the money for sessions.

Is there any freestyle or battling involved?+

Only if the room wants it, and never as an ambush. A beginner session is led by choreography; freestyle usually shows up as an optional thirty seconds at the end that about half the room joins in with.

How long before the class actually launches?+

As long as the list takes. When there are enough names for a proper room we book it, confirm a teacher and email everyone here the date. None of that gets published until every piece of it is genuinely booked.

Whereabouts in Swansea would sessions be held?+

Centrally, in a hired room with a hard floor and enough space to travel across. The postcodes on this list decide which side of the city we lean toward, and the address goes out by email.

Can I bring a friend who is also a beginner?+

Please do — beginners arrive in pairs constantly and it makes a first session easier for both of them. Each person needs their own name on the list so the room gets counted properly.
