Hen party group dancing together during a private class
The theme that films better than any other

Thriller Hen Party Dance Class SwanseaFourteen minutes of film, ninety minutes of us.

Nothing else on the list of 38 themes hands a group a formation this recognisable. That is the whole appeal: it is less a dance than an ensemble, and an ensemble makes a party of sixteen look as though it rehearsed for a fortnight. The version your teacher builds is put together in the room from shapes your group can actually hold — assembled for the people present, not photocopied from a video — either in the space we hire on Oystermouth Road or wherever the weekend is based. £185 for the ninety, £160 for the hour, whole party in, plus the venue’s hire cost. No experience required; a willingness to look ridiculous is worth considerably more.

Check the date

Dates get eaten in October.

So send yours early: the day, a rough headcount, a start time. What returns, in writing and inside the day, is a straight answer on the date, the room it would use, the class fee, and the room’s own hire cost. Autumn hen weekends book this theme hardest, for reasons that need no explaining.

Why it still gets voted in

A formation beats footwork.

Most hen party ideas ask individuals to look good. This one asks a group to move as a single object, which is a far easier thing to achieve in an afternoon and a far more impressive thing to watch. Everybody already knows the shapes — the shoulders, the head turn, the hands — so a Thriller dance hen party spends its time on timing and spacing rather than teaching from zero. The result is the rare routine that looks better with twenty people in it than with six.

1

Face paint is yours. Nothing at all is supplied here — no make-up, no jackets, no anything. Groups who do it themselves in a hotel mirror always look better than a kit would.

2

Big numbers welcome. A hen do dance class that genuinely improves as the group gets larger, which is unusual on this list.

3

Low skill, high impact. The shapes are held rather than thrown, so there is very little in it that requires a knee to fully cooperate.

Halloween weekends in Swansea

Late October is the busiest fortnight of our year for this theme and the rooms go accordingly. If your hen falls anywhere near it, get the date down first and worry about details afterwards. The usual running order is class at teatime, back for the face paint, then Wind Street — where, that particular weekend, you will not be remotely the most conspicuous group in the queue. Parties out towards the Marina and beyond often prefer an afternoon session at the house so the light is still good for filming outside.

The date is the scarce thing here. Nos da to everything else, which can be decided later.

A

In and loosened

Shoulders, necks and ankles, because this routine asks a great deal of all three.

B

The shapes

Four or five held positions learned separately, which is most of the routine already done.

C

Into formation

Spacing, rows and timing. The moment it clicks is audible from the corridor outside.

D

Rolling

One full run filmed head-on, because this is the theme whose video goes properly viral in a family group chat.

The room

Space for rows.

Formation work wants width above all else, and the room we hire on Oystermouth Road has it — enough for three rows of six with room to move between them. Its hire cost is sent in writing with the date, before you commit to anything at all.

Thriller, interrogated.

six questions we get asked most often ↓

Do we need make-up and costume for it?+

None of it comes from us. Face paint, jackets and anything else are the group’s own to organise, and plenty of parties skip the lot and do the class in leggings. The routine is entirely unaffected either way.

Is the routine the same as the video?+

It is built from the same recognisable shapes, arranged for the number of people actually in your room. A fourteen-minute film does not fit into an afternoon, so your teacher takes the parts that read best in a group and constructs something that suits your party.

Does it work for a big hen party?+

Better than almost anything else on the list. Rows and spacing do the heavy lifting, so twenty-plus becomes a strength rather than a problem — send the headcount and the teacher plans the formation before arriving.

What are we paying in total, honestly?+

The class is £185 for ninety minutes or £160 for an hour, and the venue’s hire cost sits on top of that when we use the hired room, quoted in writing first. Every person in the party is included in the fee, and at your own place the venue cost is zero.

Can hens with bad knees take part?+

Yes. The signature shapes are held rather than jumped, and your teacher offers a seated or reduced version of anything that does not suit. Say what is going on in the message box and it gets planned for rather than improvised around.

Do groups book this outside of October?+

Constantly. October is comfortably the busiest month for it, but June hens book it just as happily — the routine has no idea what season it is, and the video comes out the same in all of them.

If the vote turns elsewhere.
